Conference Report IMF 2013

The 7th Conference on IT Security Incident Management & IT Forensics (IMF2013) was held from March 12th until March 14th in Nuremberg.

IMF is hosted by the GI Section SIDAR of the GI security special field. The English speaking conference addresses an international professional audience and can be counted to belong to the most important conferences of the incident management and IT forensics communities. A particular aspect of IMF is its balanced combination of science and practice, which is reflected by the papers as well as by the 80 registered attendees from seven countries and which is regularly met with a very positive response.

The two keynotes „Measuring the Cost of Cybercrime“ by Rainer Böhme (University of Münster) and „Recent Cyber Attacks: Inherent Risks, Countermeasures, Perspectives“ by Klaus Brunnstein (University of Hamburg) sparked intensive discussions and gave valuable impulses.

During the scientific part of the programme on the first two days of the conference, eleven international scientific papers addressing both security incident management and IT forensics were presented. On the last day of the conference and following a long tradition, more practice-oriented workshops from malware and crypto analysis as well as mobile phone forensics were offered.

The organisation of this year’s IMF was carried out in close cooperation with the professorship for IT security infrastructures of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and was supported by the DATEV eG as platinum sponsor and with Fraunhofer IAO further sponsoring the event.

We sencerely thank all of those who contributed to the success of the event, in particular the authors of the papers, the members of the programme committee, the organising team as well as the conference management of Felix Freiling (general chair) and Holger Morgenstern (programme chair).

Further information, including the individual paper presentations of the IMF 2013, can be obtained from the conference website www.imf-conference.org. The proceedings with the complete papers were published in the conference proceedings of IEEE Computer Society (ISBN 978-0-7695-4955-2).

The next IMF conference is anticipated to take place from May 12th to May 14th in the year 2014, in Münster, Germany.
